Everett seems pretty happy with its incumbents

It looks like folks in Everett are pretty content with how the city is being run. Based on filing for office in this fall’s election, Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson, City Councilman Paul Roberts and City Councilman Jeff Moore are all unopposed. Scott Murphy, who was appointed to the City Council in January of this year, will face a challenge from Jackie Minchew. Both district court judge positions and the Port of Everett Director position also have just one person whose filed for office meaning they get a free pass unless a write in candidate comes forward.

Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson

Will anyone challenge Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson this fall?

It’s almost time to file for the November election. Filing for office by mail actually started yesterday while in person and online filing begins May 13th. In Everett, Mayor Ray Stephanson is up for re-election. 3 council positions are also up as Jeff Moore, Paul Roberts and Scott Murphy will have to ask voters to return them to office. There are also two municipal court judges, Tim O’Dell and David Mitchell whose terms expire at the end of this year. Port of Everett Commissioner Position number 3, currently held by Michael Hoffman, is also on the ballot this fall.

If you’re thinking of running for office, Snohomish County Auditor Carolyn Weikel, is putting on a candidate workshop this Thursday from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at the County administration building. Topics include how to file as a candidate, getting your information into the voter’s guide, important election dates and public disclosure information.

Voting in Everett Begins Today

You can vote anytime between now and November 8th.

Happy Election Day! That’s something you can now say every day thru Tuesday November 8th. By the end of today almost everyone eligible to vote in the General election will have received their state voter’s guide, local voter’s guide and mail in ballot. Now it’s up to you to decide when to vote and how to return your ballot to be counted. If you mail it back, your ballot has to be postmarked by November 8th but if you don’t want to trust mailing it in, your ballot can be dropped off at specially marked boxes in front of the Snohomish County courthouse in Everett or other locations around Snohomish County. If you don’t trust the mail ballot at all, you can use the voting machines at the Snohomish County Auditor’s Office at the courthouse in Everett. They are designed for disabled voters who may have visual problems and need an audio version of the ballot but anyone may use them.

A reminder that My Everett News has offered 300 word profiles to candidates running for office in Everett. You can find all of these under the Everett Government tab at the top of the page. We post them as they come in and they flow thru the regular news feed. We sent invitations to the candidates email address on file with the auditor. Some have responded and posted profiles, some have not. My Everett News does not endorse any candidates or issues. We do accept political ads. Our only piece of political advice…If you don’t vote, you can’t complain.

Filing for Office closes at 4pm today

According to the list of candidates who have already filed for office, the Everett School District Board of Directors Seat currently held by Kristi Dutton is drawing a lot of interest. While Dutton has yet to file for re-election, five other candidates have put their hat into the ring.
Looks like Aaron Reardon and any challengers are waiting until the last-minute as there are still no names for Snohomish County Executive. Also no challengers yet to any of the county-wide incumbents and while three out of four Everett City Council members have challengers, Everett City Council President Shannon Affholter is still unopposed. Potential candidates for all positions have until 4pm today to file for office. Here’s a link to all of the offices on the ballot this fall.
