A reminder that you have until June 1st to nominate a property in Everett that you think is exceptional.

Nominations due June 1st

The City of Everett’s Office of Neighborhoods is accepting nominations for the 19th annual Monte Cristo Awards, a distinguished honor given to property owners who have shown extensive pride in their property.

Nominations are welcomed and encouraged from anyone who recognizes the beauty and attractiveness of properties within the city limits of Everett. Nominations will be accepted through June 1. Winners are chosen for making the city a special place to live through their extensive efforts to make their homes or businesses attractive and keep them well maintained.

Awards are given in three categories: Rejuvenation and Transformation, Pride of the Neighborhood and Neighborhood Friendly Business. Award recipients receive a Monte Cristo Award plaque for placement on the exterior of their home or business. The Everett Council of Neighborhoods and the City of Everett Office of Neighborhoods sponsor the awards.

The selection committee is made up of representatives of the Council of Neighborhoods, community volunteers and city staff members.

Each year, previous Monte Cristo Award winners are evaluated for the coveted Director’s Award now known as the Marian Krell Award in honor of the late Marian Krell. This prestigious award honors property owners who have excelled in beautifying and maintaining property over an extended period of time.

An awards ceremony for the winners is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday Oct. 10 at the Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave.

Nomination forms are available to pick up at the Everett Library branches, the City of Everett’s office lobby in the Wall Street Building, the PUD, and at local home improvement, paint and lumber stores and through neighborhood associations. Or to request a nomination form, contact Wendy McClure, coordinator for the Office of Neighborhoods, at 425-257-8717 or wmcclure@everettwa.gov.

Based on filing for office in this fall’s election, Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson, City Councilman Paul Roberts and City Councilman Jeff Moore are all unopposed. Scott Murphy, who was appointed to the City Council in January of this year, will face a challenge from Jackie Minchew. Both district court judge positions and the Port of Everett Director position also have just one person whose filed for office meaning they get a free pass unless a write in candidate comes forward.
