Hi there – this is a significant event for Everett; it’s the first Pulitzer winner (for Fiction) the Library has hosted. And it’s free! Russo’s book, Empire Falls, is a story about a Mill Town much like Everett.
Richard Russo, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Empire Falls. Russo makes an appearance for a free lecture and book signing, Friday, February 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Everett Performing Arts Center. Copies of Empire Falls will be available for purchase.
A master of rich characters and pitch-perfect descriptions of small-town America, Russo’s humorous lectures cover his approach to shaping narratives and how “home” has defined his work.
There is an opportunity to attend a 6 p.m. reception with Russo for which only 100 tickets are available (http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2487312). $10 for members of the Friends of the Everett Public Library, $25 for non-members. In addition to a close audience with Russo, the reception will also feature heavy appetizers and a no-host bar.
Russo is the author of a number of critically acclaimed novels, including Nobody’s Fool (which was made into a film starring Paul Newman). The sequel, Everybody’s Fool, will be published this May.
