Socks for kids, women and men fill the lobby of McClain Insurance in Everett.

Back on the 13th of November we told you about TOEvember, an idea by Matt Hammerstrom, a 1986 graduate of Everett High.

Hammerstrom decided to hold a sock drive to collect and donate new clean socks to shelters in Everett, Snohomish and King counties.

Since the 13th he’s been collecting socks with the help of friends and business owners all over the Puget Sound area.

Today we caught up with Hammerstrom as he stopped by McClain Insurance, an Everett donation point and found literally thousands of socks waiting for him.

With the Everett donations he tells MyEverettNews.com that he figures to have collected somewhere around 5460 pairs of socks for kids, women and men. That’s enough to warm 54,660 toes!

In Everett, socks will be donated to the Everett Gospel Mission and Women’s and Children’s Shelter. Cold weather shelters in Snohomish and King counties will also be receiving socks and gloves thanks to the effort of Matt and his friends.

“I never dreamed we’d get this many,” said Hammerstrom. “Just imagine what we can do next year when we have so much more time to plan.”

You can find out more about TOEvember from Matt’s Socks Save Lives Facebook page.
