Editor’s Update Monday June 8th 7:15am: Firefighters were called back to the pilings this morning at 2:00am after fire deep in a couple of the pilings started back up. The chain saw again saw some use. An unusual blaze for Everett Firefighters along the Snohomish River Sunday afternoon. A fire in a set of pilings started to spread with the wind causing flames to jump from one set of pilings to a second and then a third. It happened in an area underneath and northeast of the Alverson bridge. Crews from Engine 2 were able to contain the fire and stop the spreading by first wetting the pilings from above, then dropping to the riverside to individually wet each piling and finally using a chain saw to cut some of the pilings down to remove them as a source of fuel for the fire. No word on what started the fire but given the unusually dry conditions in our area for this time of year, firefighters are urging people to be extra careful. Here are some photos of the crew from Engine 2 containing the flames.
