French macarons are a unique part of the Frost menu.

Can downtown Everett have too many doughnuts? We may soon find out. The long-awaited arrival of Frost happens tomorrow in the former “Bite Me Cupcakes” location in the 2800 block of Colby. At the end of February we told you about Mill-Creek based “Frost” coming to downtown Everett. Now Frost says they aren’t a doughnut shop but are a gourmet dessert lounge. “These are luxurious, over the top desserts for people who want to splurge and treat themselves,” said Tarek Nasser, marketing manager for Frost. “There’s no place in Everett who does what we do.”

That may be true but there are a lot of other places to get doughnuts and pastries including Sweet Petite in the 2600 block of Colby, Karl’s Bakery in the 2800 block of Wetmore and Henry’s Donuts in the 2500 block of Broadway. (You could also add the in-store bakery at QFC) Given the long established competition for sweets in downtown Everett it will be interesting to see if Frost can outlast “Bite Me”. One thing seems certain, if an area’s progress can be measured in available calories, downtown Everett is booming.
