Not a single person spoke out at two public hearings of the salary commission.

The Everett Citizen’s Salary Commission has finished its work and set the salary schedules for elected officials for the City of Everett for 2016 and 2017. The commission meets every two years to determine salaries. There were two public hearings held by the commission during its sessions in April and not a single citizen spoke at either public hearing. The commission has now set the salary schedule for the next two years with what looks to be small raises.

The Mayor’s salary for 2015 is $13,919.00 per month through December 21st 2015. Effective January 1, 2016, the Mayor’s salary for 2016 will be determined by increasing the Mayor’s salary for 2015 by the same percentage of cost of living adjustment that the appointive, non-represented City employees receive for 2016. (unknown at this time, likely 3%) That same formula will be applied for 2017. (unknown at this time, likely 3%)

The City Council members’ salary for 2015 is $2,247.00 per month per Council member through December 31, 2015. Effective January 1, 2016, the City Council members’ salary for 2016 will be $2,292.00 per month per Council member. (a 2% raise)
Effective January 1, 2017, the City Council members’ salary for 2017 will be $2,338.00 per month per Council member. (a 2% raise)

The salary for the Council member designated as City Council President/Mayor Pro Tem is and shall be 30 percent in addition to his/her salary as a council member. (there is no change here, this has been policy for some time)

The new schedule goes into effect in 90 days. The next meeting of the salary commission will be in 2017 which is also the same time that the City Charter review commission will meet which could change how salaries for elected officials are set.
