A 66 year-old female homeowner, Sharon Miller, was recently diagnosed with a serious medical condition and received treatment at an out-of-state medical facility. While away, a neighbor notified her that someone broke into her house. It was unknown if anything was taken, but Ms. Miller left treatment early to return home and found it ransacked with hundreds of thousands of dollars in property missing. Taken were coins, knife and gun collections, cash, precious and semi-precious gems, jewelry and many other items. Even after her return, the burglaries continued. Afraid to stay in her home, Ms. Miller moved into a local motel.
“Crimes like these are an affront to the community. The Everett Police Department considers it part of our mission to protect citizens, restore their sense of personal security and hold people accountable for their crimes.” says Detective Mike Atwood.
Believing more burglaries would occur, detectives from the Property Crimes Unit worked with crime analysts to discover a pattern of criminal activity. Detectives, in conjunction with Patrol officers and Pro-Active Unit officers devised a plan to combat these crimes. Over the ensuing days, 9 felony arrests were made and the suspects were booked into the Snohomish County Jail.
Detectives continue to investigate the case and have conferred with other law enforcement agencies. Based on these efforts, search warrants were served on a house in the 2500 block of Grand Ave and in the City of Bothell to recover stolen property. In addition to recovering items taken from Ms. Miller, property stolen during other burglaries was also seized. Detectives continue to investigate these serious crimes.
