After 15 weeks of training, 21 Everett Community College Fire Academy students earned Firefighter I & II and Hazardous Materials Awareness & Operations certificates in December.
“We take pride in training firefighters who are dedicated to serving their communities and saving lives,” said EvCC Fire Science Program Director, Russell Colmore.
Graduates include: Sean Anderson, Aaron Boede, Daniel Bradley, Thomas Conto, John Courtade, Brent Duckworth, Mateo Galindez, Lauren Gustafson, Mitchel Hahn, Zachary Hanson, Alexander Jasper, Jeffrey Miller, Anthony Mozeak, Skyler Peterson, Jacob Pregler, Adam Schorsch, Casey Stockwell, Miranda Timonen, Theresa Tozier, Caleb Trudgeon, Jared Valenta.
The drillmaster for the group was Dave Neyens, a retired Battalion Chief with the Everett Fire Department. Everett Community College’s fire science degree program runs two Firefighter Academies each year in the fall and spring.
The next academy begins August 31. The deadline to apply is July 1. Go to EverettCC.edu/FireScience for step-by-step directions to apply. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED and have a valid photo ID.
The academy meets the standards for IFSAC Firefighter I & II and Haz-Mat Awareness & Operations certification. Recruits receive training and certification at the Washington State Fire Academy for live fire training. Students can also earn a 90-credit associate’s degree in technical arts in fire science.
