ChildStrive (formerly Little Red Schoolhouse), announced today it had received a major grant from the Everett Clinic Foundation that will help children ranging from infancy to five years of age who are living in shelters or other facilities, to keep up their development at the same rate as those living in more stable environments. Thanks to Kathleen Lefcourt from ChildStrive for passing this along…

ChildStrive has received a $10,000 grant from The Everett Clinic Foundation in support of the agency’s “Supports to Homeless Families Program”.  This grant will enable ChildStrive to continue to provide services to families with children ages birth to five who are living in homeless shelters or transitional housing facilities in Snohomish County.  The grant from the Everett Clinic Foundation will help identify children that may be falling behind their peers in development and refer them for intervention if there is a need.  The grant will also support shelter play groups and parent education programs.

“The ultimate goal of this program,” stated Terry Clark, Executive Director of ChildStrive, “is to provide families with the supports needed to ensure positive interactions with each other and prepare children for success in school.”  The program is expected to impact 150 children and their caregivers.  ChildStrive has been collaborating with local shelter service providers and providing early learning and child development services in homeless shelters for 16 years.

ChildStrive (formerly Little Red School House) has been serving children and families in Snohomish County for over 50 years.  Through programs that include Early Intervention (therapies for children who have a disability or who are developmentally delayed), Nurse Family Partnership and Parents as Teachers, ChildStrive partners with families to support young children’s success in daily life and in the community.
