Oakes fire

Firefighters had to switch to a defensive mode once flames began shooting out of the roof.

A stubborn attic fire Friday night gutted a building at 34th and Oakes. According to an early press release from Everett Fire Marshal Rick Robinson, crews were called at 11:06pm and found smoke coming from the building. Everett Firefighters began an offensive attack but had to pull out of the building as the blaze spread across the attic. A second alarm was then called. One firefighter was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center to be examined after slipping at the scene. Assistant Everett Fire Marshal Eric Hicks says the investigation is just getting underway. There was no one in the building at the time of the fire and no damage estimate yet available. Here are a few pictures from the scene. Click on the individual photos to enlarge.
