The Everett Police Department is stepping up recruitment efforts to hire 15 new officers next year. According to Everett Police Sgt. Ryan Dalberg these aren’t new positions. “We’re just trying to fill our regular allotment of officers, said Dalberg. “These openings are due to retirements and our normal attrition.” Dalberg went on to say that the two biggest challenges the department faces in getting qualified candidates are the ability to pass the physical fitness test and the background check. “We have extremely high standards for who can become an Everett Police officer,” said Dalberg. “It’s one thing to think you can do 30 push-ups, etc. It’s another to actually do it during the pressure of testing.” In order to meet the goal of hiring 15 officers in 2015 Everett Police plan to attend more hiring events, add an additional test next year, assign additional background investigators, continue to work with Naval Station Everett on career transition for Naval personnel and advertise to a wider audience.
