Citing Need For More Data, City of Everett Wants to Extend Temporary Pot Zoning Rules

Everett wants more data before making retail pot rules permanent.

As just the first of its five retail marijuana stores opens today, the City of Everett is looking at extending its zoning laws for retail pot merchants. The current temporary ordinance was passed last October but since the city hasn’t yet had retail marijuana sales, they don’t really have data to see of the ordinance will work as intended. On Wednesday the Everett City Council will hear a briefing on the extension. There really aren’t any substantial changes to the ordinance other than to clarify that Everett will not issue an application to a marijuana retailer until that retailer has a letter of approval in hand from the Washington State Liquor Control Board. While there are more than four-dozen applications pending with the State right now, only one licensee had been approved. You can see a copy of the proposed ordinance here.
