A Sneak Peek Inside The New Everett Mall Way Walmart

Everett Wal-Mart

The new Wal-Mart is set to open sometime between September 5th and 15th.

This morning MyEverettNews.com was treated to a sneak peek inside the new Walmart store at the site of the old Top Foods on Everett Mall Way. The store is slated to open sometime between the 5th and 15th of September with the exact date still to be announced. We first revealed in October of 2011 that Walmart had purchased the former Top Foods location and was holding it for future development.

Chris Johnson

This is the second new store to be opened by Chris Johnson.

In May we introduced you to Chris Johnson who is the manager opening this location as he began the hiring process for this store. That process continues as they are near their target of 200 employees. Johnson says they continue to hire both for now as well as the upcoming holiday season. Here are a few details about the new store.

This location is only 90,000 square feet where the average Walmart is closer to 160,000 square feet.

There will be about 200 store employees and a dozen members on the management staff.

Interest in employment has been high with more than 500 applicants for the 200 jobs.

The pharmacy sign out front is covered up until the store is actually open. Johnson says they aren’t allowed to display the pharmacy sign until people can actually shop there.

The store will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The freezer cases are energy-efficient with lights that dim if no one is in the aisle in front of the case.

Departments include an expanded Deli, Grocery, Bakery, Produce, Jewelry, Electronics, Sporting Goods, Automotive, Garden Center and Apparel. They will also feature a ship to store area where you can shop online and pick up your purchase at the store.

Johnson says the store is looking to partner to support local community groups with small donations at the store level and grants for larger community efforts through the Walmart Foundation.
