“20-Somethings” in Everett, WA Sought For Leadership Snohomish County

In “30 Smart Career Moves You Should Make By 30”, Colleen Oakley urges young professionals to turn off social media and start making real, human connections.

At Leadership Snohomish County, we know that relationships matter. In our Leadership Challenge program, professionals aged 21-29 from across Snohomish County build new relationships quickly, work collaboratively, and gain sustainable leadership skills that can last a lifetime. In this setting, opportunities and partnerships emerge organically.

“It’s easy in this very  ‘networked’ day and age to become disconnected from the broader community,” said Joe McIalwain, LSC Board President. “In this program, we encourage students to emerge from the media bubbles and industry silos they may be in, and to really listen and learn from each other, as well as from local leaders and leadership experts. Students discover new ways to look at their community, their careers and their own personal strengths and potential.”

Richele Blair graduated from LSC’s Challenge Program this year and is employed at Everett Community College. “The program allowed me to explore opportunities in the professional world that I might not have explored before,” said Blair.

Richele’s employer has noticed.“The program has helped Richele improve her leadership and communication skills,” says Patrick Sisneros, Vice President of College Services. “I’ve noticed that she’s more motivated to participate in helping to build the College community.  Richele also has a clearer understanding of the direction she would like to take her career.”

Blair also now volunteers with LSC on the education committee.

Along with valuable connections, the Leadership Challenge Program for Young Professionals offers:

• Proven curriculum
• Practical facilitation
• Hands-on experience
• Informed perspective.
