Everett apartment fire

A dozen units were destroyed and 35 people are being helped by the Red Cross.

Here is the update on the fire from Assistant Everett Fire Marshal Eric Hicks:

At about 2:11 a.m. on July 20, 2014, Everett firefighters were dispatched to 801 75th St. SE. for a report of an apartment fire.

A woman sleeping in the first floor apartment woke to smoke in her apartment. She quickly woke her two children and escaped from the apartment. She then went to the second floor apartment to alert her neighbors and call 911.

Firefighters responding to the fire received reports of people trapped. The fire was upgraded to a second alarm for additional personnel to respond. All residents in the building were able to escape without injury.

The first firefighters to arrive saw fire coming from the first floor apartment bedroom window. The fire spread to the floors above and attic area where firefighters were able stop the fire.

About 35 residents were displaced and received assistance from the Red Cross. Two cats are confirmed deceased. No other reported injuries.

The apartment building sustained severe fire and water damage and will not be reoccupied. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
