Everett Water Treatment Plant

Given the hot weather, noise and smell when its warm you may want to avoid spending time at Smith Island for the next 10 weeks.

The heavy work is beginning on expansion of the Everett Water Pollution Control Facility just past the Everett Animal Shelter in north Everett. Here are the noisy details from Meghan Pembroke at the City of Everett.

Work is continuing on the Everett Water Pollution Control Facility on Smith Island in north Everett. Next week, contractor crews will begin driving piles for the construction of three new structures at the treatment plant. Pile-driving work is expected to take about 10 weeks to complete.

Crews will work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The contractor will do everything possible to minimize impacts to homes and businesses adjacent to the plant. However, there will be ongoing noise as the pilings are installed and heavy equipment moves around the site.

The first phase of upgrades to the facility adds three news structures to the plant’s mechanical treatment system to provide more capacity for the facility and help keep it compliant with the requirements of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit program. The cost of these upgrades is $31 million.
