The Nimitz is getting a new commander. Here’s the information from Kristin Ching at Naval Station Everett…

Capt. John C. Ring will take command of USS Nimitz (CVN 68) from Rear Admiral (select) Jeff S. Ruth during a change of command ceremony July 8 at 10:00 a.m. The ceremony will be conducted aboard the aircraft carrier while in port at Naval Station Everett.

In honor of the ceremony, the carrier will be firing its cannon as a traditional salute. Practice salutes may be expected on July 3 and 7 during the day.

Ruth has commanded the Nimitz since March 2012. He is assigned to become the new commander of Navy Region Northwest, located in Bangor, Wash.

Ring served as Executive Officer of Nimitz from October 2009 to June 2011. He is a native of San Diego, Calif., and was commissioned via the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Arizona. Following flight training in Pensacola, Fla., he was designated as a Naval Flight Officer in 1990.
