McClain Mobile App

Editors Note: While there are many mobile apps from big national insurance companies, (including those they represent), McClain Insurance in south Everett has unveiled its own local app. After seeing the announcement of the app I had some questions for agency owner Claudia McClain. While McClain Insurance is a long time advertiser of MyEverettNews.com this is not a paid advertorial or “native ad”. MyEverettNews.com is interested in how Everett based companies are adapting big business technology to small business solutions. If you know of an Everett company who is doing something unique to better serve their customers and you’d like us to ask them about it, send an email to MyEverettNews.com.

Q: Why would a local agency develop an app when I can download one from my carrier?

A: As an independent agent, our clients have the benefit of choosing from multiple companies to “custom fit” their insurance needs and budget. So, there will be times where a client has their auto with one company and their home insurance with another. It would be a hassle for them to have to download multiple company apps. Our agency app allows them to maintain all of their insurance information in one place, regardless of their choice of company. Also, should they choose to change companies in the future, they can still keep their McClain Insurance Agent app and simply update their company information. And quite frankly, our app has more robust capabilities especially on the home inventory and accident reporting features than most of our insurance carrier apps.

Q: How easy is it to build a home inventory with the app?

A: Personally, I think that the home inventory on the app is very simple because it integrates with your smart phone camera. You can build the inventory gradually over time. Sitting in the family room watching TV? Snap a photo of the TV and other electronics, assign them a name and room! You don’t need to fill out every field at once. You can always come back and fill in the details, if you want, at a later date. Completing a full household inventory in one day, or even one week, is a daunting task. With our app, you can add one or two items a day and you’ll be amazed at how quickly and easily you’ve inventoried the majority of your home!

Q: Is there a cost for the app and can anyone use it or only paying customers of McClain?

A: The app is available to anyone who would like to use it. No need to be a McClain Insurance client! The app is free! We are providing it to all clients and friends of our agency because we realize that folks need to be able to access their insurance information quickly in times of loss. Whether it is a house fire or a car accident, it is likely that most everyone will have their smart phone with them. We want to make it as simple as possible for folks to get the help they need quickly.

Q: What’s your favorite feature?

A: I think that one of the most valuable features of the app is the car accident tab. It utilizes all of the great tools available on a smart phone: geo-location, camera, microphone, email, etc. If a person has an accident, it walks them through what to do, what photos to take, and allows them to dictate (depending on the smart phone) a description of the accident which then becomes text. There are quick-links to call 911 or find a nearby towing company. A map can be accessed to show actual location. There is time/date stamp created in the report, and the report can be emailed to the client which can then be forwarded to an insurance agent or company.
