Mukilteo shooting after chase

A final report on the shooting has not been completed.

Received word today from the SMART Team investigating an officer involved shooting in Mukilteo last month that the suspect in that case has died. Here’s the release from spokesman Mark Marsh…

The shooting suspect in an Island County Homicide and subsequent pursuit and second degree assault occurring in Mukilteo, Riley Leif Ottersen succumbed to his injuries on March 17, 2014 at 9:27 pm. The exact cause of death will be determined by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s office.

The incident remains under investigation by the Snohomish County Multi-Agency Response Team (SMART), a team of detectives from various Snohomish County law enforcement agencies who respond to and investigate police use-of-force incidents in the county.

A 17 year veteran of the Everett Police Department is one of four law enforcement officers who were involved in that chase and shooting that ended at the intersection of 53rd Ave. West and 88th Street SW in Mukilteo on February 16th. One Washington state trooper and two Snohomish County Sheriff deputies were involved in the shooting. The officer from Everett Police Department has been with agency for 17 years. The state trooper has been with Washington State Patrol for two and half years. One deputy has been with the Sheriff’s Office for 21 years and the second for 16 years. All involved officers and deputies were been placed on administrative leave by their respective agencies, as is standard procedure.
