7:00am Update: Per Everett Police spokesman Aaron Snell…The grenade was inert.

The Everett Police Bomb Squad was called to the 10800 block of Evergreen Way early this morning after a suspect on a stolen scooter told police he had a grenade under the seat. According to Everett Police Spokesman Aaron Snell this all began about 4am when an officer saw a scooter southbound in the 8400 block of Evergreen Way. The officer determined the scooter was stolen and called for back-up. The scooter was stopped in the 10800 block of Evergreen and the driver was taken into custody. During his arrest he told officers that there was a grenade strapped under the seat of the scooter. Officers checked and saw the grenade. They backed off and called the bomb squad who removed the grenade. Snell says they are still trying to determine if the grenade was live or not. No word on why the grenade was on the scooter. The 26-year-old man was booked into jail for possession of stolen property and outstanding warrants. Evergreen Way was shut down for about an hour and a half while police took care of the matter.
