Wednesday night the Everett City Council is expected to approve $40,000.00 in capital and programming grants recommended by the Everett Cultural Arts Commission. Among the largest of the grants is ten thousand dollars for studio equipment for radio station KXIR. At 88.9 on the FM dial, KXIR is licensed to Freeland and their radio tower is located in Greenbank on Whidbey Island. The station is owned by the non-profit KSER Foundation and its studios are currently located in Everett. The station went on the air in November and currently simulcasts KSER’s signal. KSER General Manager Tom Clendening writes on his blog that the simulcast will likely continue for some time…“For several months we will continue to simulcast KSER & KXIR while we conduct more community forums and surveys to obtain community feedback on how to best serve the community with two independent public radio stations. We’d welcome your feedback.”
