The Everett City Council will get a briefing at its Wednesday evening meeting regarding a plan called “Let it Rain” to help control flooding after heavy rains. Given the number of beach closures, flooded basements and sewage that went into Port Gardner Bay following last Thursday’s downpour, there is a lot of interest in the plan. There’s not a lot available on the city’s website at this point but the briefing notice for council members says the following…

“The updated Sewer Comprehensive Plan encourages the use of green infrastructure to minimize the effects of rain water. The “Let it Rain” program will help: reduce basement flooding in north Everett, reduce flows to sewer system, reduce flows to the Water Pollution Control Facility, reduce combined sewer overflows and improve water quality in Puget Sound. This program will help meet requirements from Department of Ecology to reduce combined sewer overflows and the NPDES stormwater permit education and green infrastructure requirements. The program elements are residential rain garden rebates, downspout disconnection rebates and rain barrels. The proposed 2014 program budget is $246,300.”

The meeting will be held in the Everett City Council chambers starting at 6:30pm. You can also watch it live online through the city’s website or on Comcast cable 21 or Frontier cable 29.
