The Port of Everett has hired veteran maritime professional Walter Seidl as its Marketing Director to continue to attract new customers and cargoes to the bustling seaport.

With six shipping lines regularly calling the Port of Everett, and a 29 percent growth in exports over 2011 levels, the Port identified a need to hire a marketing director to work on retaining its current customer mix, as well as attracting new customers.

Seidl, a licensed merchant mariner from the State University in New York – Maritime College, has spent the last 27 years in terminal, logistics and vessel operational roles throughout the West Coast. After graduating, Seidl started with U.S. Lines on Staten Island learning how to stevedore container vessels at Howland Hook. In 1986, he jumped at the opportunity to head back to the West Coast to perform stevedoring services in Long Beach, Calif.

In 1989, the container industry came calling again, and Seidl joined APL Ltd. where he spent the next 23 years in various roles such as vessel operations, container yard operations, third party client services, vessel chartering, regional logistics and corporate import logistics. Seidl spent more than 10 years with APL in Seattle. The latter part of his tenure took him to Arizona with the company.

“I am very pleased to return to the Pacific Northwest,” Seidl said. “My family and I have made the Puget Sound our home and we are excited to be back and engage in our community.”

Ranked 5th on the West Coast by export value, the Port of Everett specializes in high and heavy cargoes for the aerospace, manufacturing, construction, mining and oil and gas industries. To continue to serve these industries with the highest level of service, the Port of Everett is making several key infrastructure investments.

Recently, the Port completed the first phase of a new roll-on/roll-off (Ro/Ro) cargo dock that allows the Port of Everett to accommodate the largest Ro/Ro ships in the world. The Port is working now on the second phase of this project, which would strengthen the Ro/Ro dock landing for loading and unloading heavy cargoes. In addition to the new cargo berth, the Port is investing millions of dollars to upgrade its on-terminal rail capabilities that will enhance the connection with the BNSF mainline between Everett, the Mid West and beyond.

The Port of Everett, located just 25 miles north of Seattle, supports nearly 35,000 jobs in Snohomish County and the region. Its natural deep-water port specializes in handling cargoes for the construction and manufacturing industries, including all of the oversized parts for the 747, 767 and 777 airplane programs.
