United Way Tax Help

So far nearly 1200 Everett residents have been helped by United Way

There are only a couple of weeks left for those in Everett who make less than 51k per year to get free tax preparation help from United Way. So far Everett residents have seen refunds totalling over 2 million dollars. Here’s the update from United Way of Snohomish County’s Neil Parekh…

Working evenings and mornings, volunteers have helped 1,190 people in and around Everett file their taxes for free as part of United Way of Snohomish County’s free tax preparation program.
The tax preparers, working out of numerous tax sites throughout Everett, have helped residents get back $2,415,450 in refunds including $823,084 through the Earned Income Tax Credit saving taxpayers more than $196,350 in preparation fees. The average income for those making use of the program is approximately $23,000 a year.
United Way’s Free Tax Preparation Centers in Everett are located at North Middle School, Goodwill’s South Everett Job Training and Education Center and South Everett Foursquare Church. In addition to these three sites in Everett, there are sites in Lynnwood, Marysville and Monroe.
The tax sites are staffed by IRS-certified volunteers. At each site, volunteers are able to help people in English and Spanish.
The free service is intended to help people who make $51,000 or less annually.
Over the past four years, United Way volunteers have prepared 9,181 tax returns worth more than $15 million in refunds for Snohomish County working families.
This year’s sponsors and partners include The Boeing Company; the Washington State Department of Commerce; Moss Adams, LLP; Goodwill; the Wal-Mart Foundation and the Internal Revenue Service.
What You Should Bring
Although no appointment is necessary, people should bring a picture ID; social security card or tax identification number for everyone on the return; W2s or other income statements from all employers, any 1099 forms; the name, address and tax ID number for your child care provider; records of student loan payments; record of payments for educational expenses such as college tuition; mortgage interest and property tax statements; a bank account number to receive your refund via direct deposit; last year’s tax return – if you have it; and if you’re filing jointly, both spouses must be present to file electronically.
