Police Blotter

Senior robbery suspectGot an update to a story from last October in which a thief grabbed a wallet from an elderly woman at the Safeway on 75th. Her husband gave chase but collapsed and was revived by a good samaritan, a police officer and Everett Fire. Today Everett Police spokesman Aaron Snell announced the arrest of the suspect.

Just after 1:00pm on October 3, 2012, a 69 year-old husband and his 70 year-old wife walked to Safeway at 7601 Evergreen Way for groceries. As they exited the business they noticed a male outside. After walking past, the male came up behind the wife and grabbed the wallet she was holding before running away. The husband chased the male into a nearby apartment complex where a resident saw the chase and joined in. The resident caught the male as he climbed a fence but after a short fight, could not detain him. The male escaped but his shirt and hat were left behind.

Officers recovered the clothing items and sent them to the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab for possible DNA evidence. DNA samples were successfully recovered, processed and placed into CODIS (Combined DNA Index System) which returned a positive match to a local male who closely resembled the description from the initial robbery reports.

Based on evidence from the investigation and DNA results, probable cause was established to arrest 24 year-old Nicholas L. Prieto of Everett. An arrest was made by the Everett Police Anti-Crime Team on February 20, 2013 and Prieto was booked into Snohomish County Jail for Robbery 1st degree.
