Williams was the 4th inmate death at the Snohomish County Jail in 11 months

At 5:00pm Thursday afternoon, the Snohomish County Medical Examiner announced their finding that the death of William Charles Williams on September 14th was a homicide. The 59-year-old Williams had been booked into the Snohomish County Jail by Everett Police on a theft charge. While at the jail he reportedly became uncooperative and combative and was tased twice by corrections officers. After his death the Snohomish Multi Agency Response Team was called in to investigate. One corrections officer was put on paid leave. In a recorded media release, the medical examiner said Williams cause of death was cardiopulmonary arrest following a physical altercation with corrections officers. The manner of death was homicide. Now that the cause and manner of death have been determined it will be up to the Snohomish County Prosecutor to decide if any charges will be filed. Corrections officers at the Snohomish County Jail are employees of the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office which took over jail operations in January of 2009. This was the 4th death of an inmate in custody at the Snohomish County Jail since the Sheriff’s office took over.
