12-year-olds Rescued After Falling Thru Ice on Everett’s Beverly Lake

Everett, Everett Fire, Police Blotter

Quick thinking neighbors saved two 12 year olds after they fell thru the ice on Everett’s Beverly Lake Sunday afternoon. Around 1:00pm Everett Police and Fire crews were called to the Shoreside Village apartments on 75th street in central Everett after a report of two people falling thru the ice. By the time crews arrived, neighbors had used an inflatable boat to go across the ice and pull the two out of the frigid waters. Richard Oleson was in his apartment near the water’s edge when his fiancée pointed out a boy and girl walking across the ice. They were about to tell the two to get off the ice when the girl fell through. The boy tried to save her and he also fell in. Oleson grabbed an inflatable raft that was outside his apartment, tossed it over the fence and two other residents helped push him to where the kids were in the water. He was able to get the two into the raft and get them back to shore and into his apartment to warm up while the waited for the fire department. Oleson describes what happened in the video below…

The two kids were checked over by Everett Fire Department medics and returned home to their parents. Both firefighters and police say the ice on lakes and ponds around Everett is in no way strong enough to support an adult or even a chid’s weight.
