You have until Wednesday to apply to fill the open seat on the Everett City Council

With Arlan Hatloes resignation, Position #3 on the Everett City Council will be open effective December 31st. The City of Everett has announced the process for filling the position and is asking those interested to act quickly. Here’s the info. provided by the city Thursday afternoon…

Any interested candidate wishing to apply for Position #3, Everett City Council must submit the letter of interest and resume, confirming their qualifications and explaining why they would like to be appointed, to the City Clerk’s Office no later than 5 pm on Wednesday, December 12, 2012.   The Clerk’s office is located at 2930 Wetmore Avenue, Everett, Washington, 98201.

All materials submitted by a candidate for the open city council position will become public records and will be disclosed upon request.  (Chapter 42.56 RCW).   No letters or resumes will be accepted after the close of business, 5 p.m. on December 12, 2012.

Each Council member will be provided a packet with a complete set of letters and resumes by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2012 to review.  By noon on Monday, December 17, 2012, each Councilmember will submit to the Deb Williams, Council Coordinator their selection of one of the applicants to nominate for the open position.  These selections will be made public by the Council President no later than noon on Tuesday, December 18, 2012. The Council President will schedule time at a public meeting to interview each of the nominated candidates. It is anticipated that the interview date will be Thursday, December 27, 2012 which will also be the Everett City Council meeting beginning at 12:30 p.m.   After those interviews, the Council will deliberate and vote on a candidate.

Should no candidate receive a majority vote upon a vote of the Council, then the Council will again vote eliminating the candidate receiving the least votes from the next round of votes.   Council will continue this process until a candidate is selected.
