Here’s a reminder from the Port of Everett Regarding the future of the Marina District…
The Port of Everett has completed the public feedback period and invites the general public to an informational meeting on Sept. 6, 2012 in the Blue Heron Room (1205 Craftsman Way; Everett, WA 98201) to learn about the Port’s refined development plan for the Marina District Master Plan.
Everett, Wash. – The Port of Everett, in conjunction with its consultant team, has collected extensive public feedback regarding the development of its marina district, and will report back to the public on the Marina District Master Plan Development Plan on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
On September 6, 2012, the public will have the opportunity to learn details about the refined development strategy for the Marina District Master Plan and ask questions of Port staff and the consultant team via stations. The meeting will be held at the Port’s Administration offices in its Blue Heron Room, located at 1205 Craftsman Way, Everett, WA 98201.
The refined plan integrates the extensive public feedback received over the last year of this project, and fulfills the Port Commission’s adopted strategic direction “gets back to basics.” On June 12, 2012, the Commission adopted a strategy that is adaptable and flexible to meet the project goals of coordination of the marina and upland development, a full-service marina facility, a destination with “quality of place,” creates jobs and connects the community to its waterfront and emphasizes sustainable development.
The development strategy will be unveiled at the Sept. 6 information meeting. The plan is responsive to feedback received from the public, is accommodating and adaptable in a soft economy, and is consistent with the project guiding principles and with the special needs and requirements of a port district.
The Port of Everett re-initiated the planning for the Marina District in 2011 after the final hurdles were cleared in the Maritime Trust bankruptcy. Beginning in June 2011, the Port of Everett Commission convened Ad Hoc committee of citizens to re-evaluate the previous development efforts. This feedback was used to develop the scope of work for the Marina District Master Plan.
Subsequently, Port staff has conducted rigorous market and community stakeholder research and economic analyses regarding the needs of both upland users and water users. Public outreach also included several interactive public meetings and written surveys. Both public feedback and extensive market research have been incorporated into the Port’s guiding principles for the project and ultimately into the development strategy.
With the public’s help, the development strategy has been re-tooled in light of the recession. In order to maintain its flexibility, the Port has chosen to take on the role of master developer for the property, embracing a maritime focus that is less-dense.
