Everett City Council to change the way it does business

The Everett City Council is set to make some changes to the way it does business. This Wednesday the Council will consider updates to how the public can comment, the way meetings are handled and they are looking to remove the provision in their charter which allows the chairperson to silence a council member who is violating council rules. The Council is also looking to define its mission and has proposed the following mission statement…

As a matter of open government and transparency, The Everett City Council strives to engage the public in a civil and democratic process. As the policy-setting and oversight body for the City, the design of the City’s democracy as outlined in the Charter is that the legislative branch sets the policy and the administrative branch carries it out.
