4:30pm Update: Everett Police and Fire Searching for Capsized Boat and Missing Person Off Jetty Island

Here’s the update as of 4:30pm direct from the Everett PIO Kate Reardon…

– Everett police and fire crews have suspended a search and rescue operation for a man believed to be in the waters of Port Gardner Bay after he allegedly fell out of a 12-foot boat this afternoon. Emergency crews are preparing to begin a recovery operation after searching for the man for about two hours. Emergency crews responded to the call for help at about 1:20 p.m. today.

Crews plan to begin this evening using side-scan sonar, a technology that locates small objects under water.

At about 1:40 p.m. today, Everett Fire Paramedics transported to the hospital another man who had been in the boat and was found in the water by boaters who had been in the area.

The Port of Everett is providing access to facilities and assistance at the waterfront to rescuers. U.S. Coast Guard is also on scene with a helicopter and two small boats coordinating efforts with local emergency responders.

Very few details at this time other than Everett Police and Fire units are actively searching for a boat that reportedly flipped over at the north end of Jetty Island. One man was rescued in the water by boaters and brought to the 10th street boat launch while the search continues for another who was supposed to be with him. A search and rescue operation is now underway for that missing man. Aid crews have transported one person to the hospital. More as we can get it.
