Is there a need for a proposed 30 bed psychiatric hospital in Everett?

The Washington State Department of Health says a Kirkland based behavioral health care company has renewed plans to spend $3.9 million dollars to build a 30-bed psychiatric hospital in Everett. According to the Washington State Department of Health website, BHC Fairfax Hospital Inc. first proposed the project back on October 19th. Actually there were three proposals, one for the 30 bed hospital, another for a 44 bed hospital and a third with 74 beds. Now it appears that Fairfax wants to move forward with the 30 bed plan. From the few documents available it looks like it would be located at Providence Regional Medical Center. The State Department of Health has issued a “beginning of review notice” letting people in Everett know they have a right to request a public hearing about the plan. If no hearing is requested, then public comments will still be taken by the Department of Health. A decision is expected in early July. It looks like there is a concurrent proposal for a 75 bed psychiatric hospital in the city of Lynnwood. That plan calls for an investment of more than $23 million dollars. That application is being made by North Pointe Behavioral Health.
