Tonight could be the last game of the year for the 'Tips

Here’s the sad news straight from the Silvertips…

EVERETT – The Everett Silvertips outshot the Tri-City Americans in two of three periods Tuesday night at Comcast Arena, but failed to light the lamp on their way to a 4-0 loss in Game 3 of their first-round WHL playoff series.  Now trailing 0-3 in the best-of-seven set, the Silvertips will look to extend their season with a home-ice win Wednesday in Game 4.
The Silvertips put a series-most 23 shots on net in Tuesday’s game, but couldn’t manage to spoil Ty Rimmer’s first career playoff shutout.  Everett’s best opportunity in the contest was a 5:00 powerplay late in the first period after a major penalty to the Americans’ Patrick Holland.  Tri-City led just 2-0 up until the ‘Tips pulled goaltender Kent Simpson for an extra attacker in the final minutes.
Everett came out strong in the first period, finishing hits and holding the Americans to one shot in the first nine minutes of play.  The Silvertips went on an extended powerplay following Holland’s major penalty and game misconduct for clipping at 13:28, but were held off the board as the period ended scoreless.
Tri-City then grabbed a pair of quick goals early in the second to take a 2-0 lead.  The first tally came less than two minutes into the period when Brendan Shinnimin tapped in a cross-ice pass from Adam Hughesman to open the scoring.  Shinnimin struck again just 1:40 later to extend the lead, firing a shot from the high slot that re-directed in front before sneaking past Kent Simpson.  The Americans outshot the ‘Tips 19-6 in the second and carried the two-goal advantage into the final frame.
The Silvertips were again kept at bay by Tri-City’s defense in the last 20 minutes despite a 10-7 edge in shots.  Everett pulled Simpson for an extra attacker with just over two minutes left, leading to Hughesman’s empty-net goal that made it 3-0.  Justin Feser then added another late tally to salt away the 4-0 Ams victory.
Kent Simpson (0-3) finished the night with 27 saves, while Ty Rimmer (3-0) stopped 23 as the Americans outshot the Silvertips 31-23.  Both teams missed on one powerplay opportunity apiece.

The teams will get right back at one another Wednesday night at Comcast Arena as the Silvertips look to force a fifth game Saturday night back at the Toyota Center.  Opening puck drop is once again set for at 7:05 pm Wednesday for Game 4 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
Silvertips playoff group tickets can be purchased by phone at 425-252-5100 or in person at the team office inside at Comcast Arena.  Single game tickets are on sale by phone (866-332-8499), online (www.comcastarenaeverett.com) or at the Comcast Arena box office.
