Downtown Everett

Get a steak dinner, salad and fries this week from 6 - 9pm for only $5.00

The Vintage Cafe at 1510 Hewitt Avenue in downtown Everett is celebrating 35 years. Opened in 1976 by Karen Staniford, the eatery has changed names and themes over time but continues to thrive. My Everett News had a chance to speak with Staniford’s husband and business partner, Jim Staniford, about how they’ve managed to keep the business going as other Everett restaurants have come and gone. “The first key is great people,” said Staniford. “Lorrie behind the bar there has been here since she was 15, her daughter Amber works here as well and Bruce in the kitchen has been with us 25 years.” Jim Staniford told me another factor is that he and Karen live upstairs above the restaurant so there’s no separate mortgage for their home and their family business. They can keep costs down and the prices reasonable. Another key to their longevity is their willingness to change and evolve. “Back when we opened, downtown Everett was thriving and we did a lot of dinners,” Staniford said. “In the 80s we went more into the bar business and then in 2002 we remodeled and went back to being a restaurant. We keep changing and evolving.” This week to celebrate 35 years, the Vintage is offering a Sirloin Steak served with salad and fries for just $5.00 every night between 6pm and 9pm. The special is good thru the 31st.
