Everett’s Fir Grove Neighborhood Lights Up for Charity

December 18, 2011

Everett

For more than 25 years, residents in the Fir Grove Neighborhood of South Everett have put on one of the most popular Christmas lighting displays in the city. At the same time, neighbors have been raising cash and food donations for Volunteers of America. That tradition continues this year at the intersection of 21st Ave. SE and 104th Street SE. Five different neighbors take turns as Santa’s helpers from the week after Thanksgiving thru Christmas. Dozens of houses in the Fir Grove neighborhood are lit up with displays ranging from simple roof outlines to complete themes with lights set to music. Tour busses, limos and mini vans filled with families slowly drive thru the neighborhood taking in the sights. At the intersection of 104th and 21st SE a white tent holds bins filled with donations for the Volunteers of America food bank. Santa greets motorists and people walking the neighborhood, passing out candy canes and posing for pictures. For those who don’t have a food donation, cash is also accepted. If you plan on going, you should know that lines thru the neighborhood can stretch for several blocks and Christmas Eve is the busiest day.
