After 15 years, the Lincoln leaves Everett for good next Thursday

The aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln will leave Naval Station Everett on Thursday December 8th. The Lincoln will head out for a routine deployment in the western Pacific and then head to her new homeport in Newport News, VA. The Lincoln first came to Everett in January of 1997. The departure of the Lincoln will not leave Everett without a carrier as the USS Nimitz will be assigned to Naval Station Everett early next year after routine maintenance is completed at the Bremerton Shipyard. If you want to watch the Lincoln leave from one of Everett’s parks or maybe the Mukilteo Lighthouse, the carrier is expected to depart sometime between 9:00am and 10:00am from the pier at Naval Station Everett. The public will not be invited on base and for security reasons the Navy will not give an exact departure time.
