Naval Station Everett - The Sailor's Choice

While there will be a Navy presence in the downtown Everett 4th of July Parade (11am on Colby), here’s a reminder that Naval Station Everett will not be open to the public this year for the 4th of July. Heightened security levels led to the decision by Naval Officials to cancel the annual Freedom Festival at Naval Station Everett. The good news coming from the base is the Morale, Welfare and Recreation unit (or MWR) is now accepting applications for the Seafair Guest Cruise. If selected, you can cruise Elliott Bay in Seattle on a ship from the US Navy, US Coast Guard or the Canadian Navy. The cost is $20.00 per person and you only have until next Thursday, July 7th, to send in your completed application. There are certain standards for being able to take the cruise and you can click here for a downloadable PDF of the application. The cruise is set for August 3rd and applications may be sent to Naval Station Everett by fax, e-mail or regular mail but they do have to be received by July 7th. Hopefully next year Naval Station Everett will be open again on the 4th of July but kudos to the folks at MWR in Everett for keeping this program going.
