Daniel Limberg speaks about Memorial Day in Everett, WA

Cmdr. Daniel Limberg speaks about the importance of Memorial Day to the Downtown Everett Action Committee

Commander Daniel Limberg took a few minutes out of his busy day this morning to address the Downtown Everett Action Committee on the impact of Memorial Day on the sailors and their families at Naval Station Everett. As Executive Officer of the base known throughout the Navy as “The Sailors Choice”, Limberg takes the guidance provided by Naval Station Everett’s Commanding Officer and puts that into action on the base. Limberg related that the average military family will move 6 times in a 20 year career and the sons or daughters of military personnel will attend an average of 7 different schools from Elementary thru High School. He said if there is one thing that sailors and families at Naval Station Everett would like to have the community do on Memorial Day, it’s to take a moment and think about those families who are spending the Holiday without their loved one because that service member gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Limberg reminded his audience that honor, courage and commitment are not mottos, but are the core of daily life for service personnel in Everett and around the world and it’s the people, not the rifles, tanks, jets or ships that make up the military and those people deserve to be remembered.

Limberg also mentioned a very worthwhile project that you may not know about. It’s the Fallen Heroes Project. Begun by Edmonds artist Michael Reagan, here’s what his website says about their mission:

“Our mission is to honor the American Fallen Heroes for their ultimate sacrifice during the war against terrorism. The foundation will provide the resources to produce and distribute to each family a hand-drawn portrait of their Fallen Hero, created by artist Michael G. Reagan, free of charge. Each portrait is intended to show our Love and Respect for these Heroes and their families.”

Here is a link to the donation page on the website. I think what Michael Reagan is doing is fantastic. Thanks to Cmdr. Limberg for mentioning him to us this morning. I hope that if you can donate, that you will. I also ask you to take a minute on Monday to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
