Lots of reaction coming from the folks in Everett, here’s a sample…
Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson’s response to today’s tanker award announcement:
Naturally, I am elated with the Air Force’s decision to award the tanker contract to The Boeing Company. It is reasonable to expect that tankers for the United States Air Force be built by a reliable, knowledgeable and experienced workforce with an established supply network and proven track record.
That workforce is Boeing and that workforce is Boeing-ready!
I look to Congress to act on this decision quickly. Congress can embrace this bid award for the integrity of the nation’s security, the competitiveness of American industry and the recognition of a skilled, seasoned workforce.

Statement from Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon on the Pentagon’s decision regarding its refueling tanker project:

“There is only one airplane that has consistently and reliably served the U.S. military without fail and that is the Boeing 767.

“The women and men of Snohomish County who build the best airplanes in the world are without question the most capable workers with whom to entrust the lives and safety of our U.S. military. For generations, our local workers have been building trusted, reliable airplanes that keep the women and men of our U.S. military safe. Their craftsmanship has not only saved lives overseas but it has also protected the lives of our citizens back home as well.

We know how to build tankers. America’s defense is best provided by skilled American hands.
